Training Protocol

DROPPED ELBOWS:  The Power Cam allows the coach to track with the swimmer at their speed from the side of the pool.  Being about 12' from the swimmer is an optimum distance from the swimmer to capture from the finger tips to the toes.  The side view allows the best angle to observe dropped elbows in any of the competitive strokes. 

RACING START:  The racing start can be evaluated very effectively using the Power Cam.  Place the cart about 12 yards from the starting end of the pool and 3 lanes from the starting block being used.  Rotate the lens so that you see the cross on the wall 1 lane away from the lane being used.  When the swimmer enters the water rotate the lens to capture the glide and break out.   The angle of entry, size of entry hole, amount of air carried through the start and efficiency of the break out can be effectively evaluated.   

BREASTSTROKE KICK:  The breaststroke kick can be viewed by placing the Power Cam at the end of a lane and the swimmer kicks or swims away from the lens.  Do not do a pull out or push off the wall to effectively capture a few kicks.  The velocity of the feet coming together as well as the width of the knees are easily evaluated. Because of the air bubbles created the flutter kick and dolphin kick cannot be evaluated in this way.

FRONT OF STROKE:  Place the cart at the end of a lane and have the swimmer swim toward the lens.  The amount of over pull or under pull can effectively be seen.  We use this view with a TiVo and the optional wireless transmitter and receiver.  The TiVo is placed about 15 feet away from the pool on our bleachers and hooked up to a TV.  The TiVo is set for a 16 second delay.  Every 15 seconds on the pace clock a swimmer leaves the far end of the pool and swims to the camera.  They exit the pool and go to the TV to see their stroke.  They then go back to the far end of the pool and attempt to swim to the Power Cam with corrections to their stroke. 

WIRELESS TRANSMITTER AND RECEIVER:  The wireless transmitter and receiver can be used in a number of ways.  As above, we use it with our TiVo for instant stroke evaluation and correction.  It has also been used to transfer the video signal to a video scoreboard.  From a safety standpoint, the underwater video signal could be sent to a remote office to monitor a swimming pool. 

RECORDING DEVICE: We sell a recording device with a viewing screen. Easy to use. $150

COMPATIBLE CAMCORDERS:  It is getting difficult to find camcorders that have the ability to record from an external analog signal.  The following do:

Most older camcorders had analog in and would also be a good choice.  There is another option, a camcorder that can record from a digital signal.
